What is a Golf Performance Screen?
A golf performance screen is a comprehensive look at your mobility, strength and movement as it relates to the golf swing. We utilize a 16-point TPI assessment as well as force plate testing to analyze your range of motion, power, strength and stability. This allows us pinpoint areas of weakness or limitation that may be posing a threat to your body or your game.
What is a TPI Screen?
The TPI (Titleist Performance Institute) Screen is a 16-point test specifically designed to analyze the physical capabilities and movement patterns of golfers, though it can be adapted for athletes in other sports as well. Developed by experts in golf biomechanics, physical therapy, and fitness, the assessment aims to identify any physical limitations, imbalances, or dysfunctions that may be impacting an individual's golf swing mechanics and overall performance.
What Does the Assessment Look At?
The assessment typically begins with a detailed consultation to discuss the patient's golf history, any current or past injuries, training regimen, and performance goals. Following this, the patient undergoes a 16-point series of movements screen and force plate testing that assess various aspects from the neck to the ankle, including:
Mobility: Evaluating the range of motion in key joints such as the hips, shoulders, and spine to determine if there are any restrictions that may affect the golf swing.
Stability: Assessing the stability and control of key muscles and joints, particularly those involved in maintaining posture and generating power during the swing.
Coordination and Motor Control: Analyzing movement patterns and coordination during specific golf-related tasks to identify any inefficiencies or compensations.
Strength / Power: Utilizing force plates to capture strength output and your power/speed provides a clear picture of your strength profile and any asymmetries that may be involved.
What Will You Walk Away With?
At the end of the assessment, you will receive a detailed summary of your findings, including areas of strength & weaknesses and if there are any areas that need to be addressed more urgently. Additionally, the patient may receive guidance on injury prevention techniques, swing modifications, and training strategies to optimize their performance on the golf course.
How Will It Improve Your Game?
By understanding the specific physical limitations or dysfunctions identified during the assessment, we can apply this knowledge to a program that can lead to:
Increased Distance and Power: By improving mobility, stability, and strength in key areas related to the golf swing, the patient can generate more power and clubhead speed, resulting in longer drives and greater distance.
Improved Consistency and Accuracy: Addressing movement dysfunctions, limitations and compensations can lead to a more consistent and repeatable swing, reducing the likelihood of errant shots and improving overall accuracy.
Injury Prevention: Correcting imbalances and addressing weaknesses can help reduce the risk of injury during both practice and play, allowing the patient to stay healthy and continue enjoying the game for years to come.
In summary, the Golf Performance Assessment provides golfers with valuable insights into their physical capabilities and limitations, along with the ability to implement targeted strategies to optimize performance and reduce the risk of injury. It's an essential tool for any golfer who’s ready to feel great through an entire round, but also to give your buddy that look when your ball goes 20 yards further than theirs.
If you’re…
Dealing with low back stiffness during or after your round
Getting fatigued into the back 9
Struggling to achieve certain positions/postures in your golf swing
Consistently slicing the ball even after working with an instructor
Wishing you could outdrive your weekly golf crew
Wanting to work on mobility and strength but don’t know where to start
Our Golf Performance Assessment will give you a detailed look at what areas need to be addressed!
